Release of the IOTA Tip Bot for Discord & Telegram
Since the old community tip bots had to be shut down for legal reasons, we have longed for an alternative. It’s hard to host something like this without a BaFin (Federal Financial Supervisory Authority) license. But the answer was as simple as it is brilliant:
The bot only provides the recipient’s address and makes them as easy to process as possible (using deeplinks, for example).
This approach is not only BaFin- compliant, but also enables maximum decentralization because the bot does not serve as a custodial, as it is the case with most other solutions.
How does it all work?
Telegram (@IOTA_TipBot):
Simply send the bot a direct message with the command /add + address, for example:
/add GDVPSCDBXHF…NWAJCPLNWYYVSOVRS9YUKGWSTPKEIGM9E99DJJCDLCCA
to add your receiving address.
If the address is added in the backend to your account, others are able to send you a tip with:
/tip @Username
Note: You have to set a @Username in your account!
The bot answers with the user defined address, and a button with a deeplink to Trinity, which auto-fills everything except the amount of IOTA you want to tip - and a QR Code to scan, which you receive from the bot via private message (to keep the chats clean).
By clicking on “Trinity” you will be forwarded to a TinyURL link (which simply is the deep link for Trinity) but we have to shorten it, because Telegram can’t handle such large links. So no worries here.
By the way, if you don’t trust us, with the command /source in private you receive a link to our GitHub repository!
Discord (IOTA TipBot#5903):
Write the bot a direct message with !add + address, for example :
!add GDVPSCDBXHF…NWAJCPLNWYYVSOVRS9YUKGWSTPKEIGM9E99DJJCDLCCA
to add your receiving address. And to tip someone type:
!tip @Username.
Pretty easy, right?
